Professional Glossary of Trading Abbreviations and Terms

**A practical guide for people analyzing Bitcoin, Ethereum, altcoins, spot markets, and futures trading.**

Cryptocurrency abbreviations appear in technical analysis, on exchanges, in on-chain data, and in traders' market commentary. Understanding them makes it easier to interpret market conditions. However, some terms may have different meanings depending on the context in which they are used.

## 1. Historical Price Levels and Basic Concepts

**ATH — All-Time High**

The highest price an asset has ever reached. Example: BTC reaches a new ATH at $120,000. Depending on the context, ATH can also refer to the highest historical market capitalization.

**ATL — All-Time Low**

The lowest price recorded for an asset throughout its available trading history. The result may vary between exchanges and trading pairs.

The point at which a trade generates neither a profit nor a loss. In trading, fees, funding payments, and other costs should also be taken into account.

A strategy involving regular purchases of an asset using predetermined amounts, regardless of its current price. It can reduce the impact of a single entry point on the average purchase price, but it does not eliminate the risk of the asset losing value.

A term occasionally used in certain contexts to describe a periodic asset acquisition plan. It is not a universally recognized or widely accepted trading abbreviation. For regular purchases, DCA is the more established term.

**HODL — Hold On for Dear Life**

## 9. Example of a Professional Market Analysis

"BTC is maintaining an HL on the HTF, but a BOS on the LTF has not yet been confirmed. OI is increasing, funding is positive, while spot CVD does not provide clear confirmation of the move. It is worth monitoring price action near the local high and potential liquidity zones. Before entering a trade, traders should define the invalidation level, SL, TP, and acceptable R."

**Interpretation:**

- BTC is maintaining a higher low on the higher timeframe.
- There is no confirmed structural breakout on the lower timeframe yet.
- Open interest is increasing, and funding is positive.
- Spot CVD data does not clearly confirm buying strength.
- The trader is monitoring further price action and planning risk before entering a position.

None of these signals, on its own, determines the direction of the next market move.

---

## 10. Key Principles of Interpretation

1. **Context matters more than the abbreviation itself.** The same term can have different meanings depending on the situation.
2. **OI does not independently determine market direction.** Price action, funding, and other indicators are also needed for proper interpretation.
3. **CVD depends on the data source.** Data from a single exchange may not represent the entire market.
4. **BOS, CHoCH, FVG, and OB depend on the methodology used.** Different traders may identify these concepts differently.
5. **Leverage increases risk.** A Stop Loss does not always guarantee execution at the exact specified price.
6. **PAC is not an industry standard comparable to DCA.** For regular purchases, use DCA when referring to this particular strategy.
